Two Deaths on the Same Afternoon
By Jack Deal

I guess it’s not unusual for two people you know to die at the same time. It happens and it happened to me the other day…

The first was Dr. J. I knew him when I worked in the local hospital as a Grief Counselor and Pastoral Care Coordinator. I worked critical care and the emergency room. Dr. J was arrogant, wealthy and somehow oblivious to all the death he dealt with every day. Not that he wasn’t a good doctor; I suppose in terms of skills he was as good as the next one in line. But like many so-called caring professionals he was driven by one bottom line…his.

Life

I was the sunshine that cradled your day
that tried to push the clouds away
I was the sand that ran between your toes
when you were four years old
that soon became the rain you danced in
from seven to eleven
And I watched you grow in the glow
of a moon that beamed
when you turned thirteen
How unfair you thought I’d become
when you turned twenty-one
because you lost a few dreams
But I stayed awake when you were out late
I was the stars ’till you turned twenty-eight
And when you found your love
“the one”
I was glimmer in the eye, the blue sky, the sun
Then you turned thirty-one
I became cloud, thunder and shower
there weren’t enough minutes to put in your hour
You forgot how to dance in the rain
’till you turned forty all you did was complain
Then you took off your shoes
and went back to the sand
I was now the warmth of your child’s hand
At forty-three
you spent more time with me
You began
to understand
And when you stood fifty years old

you stayed warm to me even though
at times I was cold
How close we grew
when you turned sixty-two
The breeze was I
that hung your grandchild’s kite in the sky
And I’m sorry I made you sad
when I took “the one” away
But I was proud
when you pushed aside that cloud
and cradled ‘me’ in the sun
for the remainder of our day

Beginning The Journey Into Spirituality

Posted on January 29, 2008 - Filed Under Self Improvement | Leave a Comment

We are all made up as a three-part being when we come into this relative world: mind, body, and spirit. This is also known as subconscious, conscious and superconscious, or Father, Son and Holy Ghost, or whatever triad description works best for you. This article is all about reaching clarity on the subject of spirituality so we will use the term mind, body and spirit.

Our mind, body and spirit beingness is in perfect balance at birth. We are love and love surrounds us. As we venture into this relative world, we understand we are one with the source of all things. We are one with God, or Allah, or Jehovah, or whatever you wish to call the universal source. For clarity’s sake we will call the universal source God.

Extroverts And Introverts

Posted on January 19, 2008 - Filed Under Education | Leave a Comment

Extroverts and Introverts! – Materialist and idealist! – Everyone is either of the two! And some are a bit of both!

The extrovert is usually the one who attains his goal, and gets what he is after, for his eye is always focused on what is outside of himself, namely, his goal and his chosen means to get there! He is also the materialist, preferring material or monetary reward for his efforts to those of a “more subtle nature” and of “undefinable origin”, like his development in educational and/or professional or other talents, as a sudden advancement of newly – discovered appreciation in for instance, art or literature etc. His attainment and its solid rewards, like money and the things it bought for him, rule supreme, and once achieved, are there to be lived for and enjoyed!

Chess, Soups And Life

What do chess and cooking have in common? Admittedly, not much. However, at the height of a hard-fought game of chess, one good move can often tip the balance. Such moves have an effect over the whole of the chessboard and enable all the player’s pieces to function in perfect harmony, whereas the opponent’s pieces are, all of a sudden, in disarray. In cooking it is also often one ingredient that brings harmony to all the flavors. It is the power of the single move, the single ingredient and the single right choice bringing harmony to the whole, which chess, cooking and life have in common.
