Stem cells are one of the most fascinating areas of biology today. But like many expanding fields of scientific inquiry, research on Stem Cells raises scientific questions as rapidly as it generates new discoveries.
Stem cells are the “ancestral” cells that turn into the various specialized organs and tissues of the body. Many scientists believe that stem cells could produce promising therapies for many diseases and injuries. Stem cells are one of the most fascinating areas of biology today. “I would rather pay your board than feed you”. This was one of my father’s ‘famous’ quotes about me and my eating habits. He had several others, but the one that really stuck was his constant reminder that “boy, you’re like a billy goat, you’ll eat anything”. Somewhere along the line, this saying evolved into my nickname of ‘goat’, that I carried with me through most of my childhood. Looking back on it, his characterization seemed quite appropriate especially in light of his trying to feed five children on a working man’s wages when one ate like five himself. I was reminded of this by my brother recently, as this lead into a rather lengthy discussion of the various names we had back during our childhood days. The odd thing is how many of them still seem appropriate today!

I believe the more we laugh the longer we will live. Laughter is one of the greatest forms of healing. I think it is great to try and make other people laugh and feel good inside to improve their mental and spiritual outlook on life. I love to laugh. My teenage sons like to poke fun of the way I laugh because I laugh long and loud. Laughing in this way obviously runs in my family because my mom and two sisters laugh the same way I do.
